A German Shorthaired Pointer stencil is clean and elegant: a long, noble head, long ears and a liver head over a ticked or roan body. Upload a photo of your GSP, choose AI likeness, and the stencil keeps the solid liver head as one bold shape. Easy is enough for most GSP portraits.

What makes a German Shorthaired Pointer stencil look like a German Shorthaired Pointer
GSPs have a long, lean head with a slight dome, a strong straight muzzle and broad ears that hang flat to the jaw. Most have a solid liver or black head, often with a white blaze, and a speckled body. For a portrait, the head is one clean shape with the eye and nose inside it.
The ticking and roan patches on the neck and body can become a scatter of small cut-outs if you include the shoulders. AI likeness keeps a handful of the largest patches and drops the fine speckles that would be too small to carve.
Photo tips for a German Shorthaired Pointer stencil
- A side or three-quarter view shows the long head best.
- Point the camera at eye level; from above the muzzle looks shorter.
- For liver heads, soft daylight keeps the eye visible.
Carving a German Shorthaired Pointer pumpkin
- Carve the eye and nostril first, then the blaze if your dog has one.
- Keep the ear as a single smooth opening.
- A tall pumpkin suits the long head in profile.
Frequently asked questions
Should I include the speckled body?
Only on a large pumpkin. A head-and-shoulders crop with a few patches looks cleaner on 8 inch pumpkins.
Which level suits a GSP?
Easy or Medium. The solid head shape is already very recognizable.
Does it work for other pointers?
Yes. English Pointers, Vizslas and Weimaraners carve the same way; the stencil follows your dog’s own photo.
