Pumpkin Carving Tools Explained
You need three pumpkin carving tools for most designs: a small serrated saw to cut, a poke tool to transfer the stencil and a scoop to thin the wall. Add a detail saw for small features, loop tools for shading and LED lights to finish. Everything else is optional.

Are electric tools worth it?
A rotary tool with a small cutting bit is the fastest way to etch shading on a big, thick pumpkin, and some carvers use a jigsaw-style electric saw for the outline. For one or two easy designs a hand saw is quicker once you count setup and cleanup. If you plan three-tone designs or photo portraits, an electric tool pays off.

DIY substitutes
