About the potion bottles stencil
Three potion bottles with bubbles: a witch’s shelf in one carving. The bottles have different shapes, a tall flask, a round flask and a stoppered jar, and the bubbles inside them glow like fizzing potions.
The bubbles and labels create 26 floating pieces, all held by bridges. Print Medium or Large and plan about an hour.
Tips for this design
- Use a drill bit for the bubbles.
- Print Large on a 10 inch pumpkin.
- Use colored LEDs behind each bottle.
Carving the potion bottles stencil
With 26 bridges, plan about an hour. Drill the bubbles first, then cut the labels, then the bottle outlines from left to right. Colored LEDs behind each bottle make the potions look different.
Drill the bubbles first, then the labels, then the bottle outlines from left to right. Full transfer guide.
Common mistakes
- Cutting the bottle outlines first.
- Using the Small size.
- Drilling through label bridges.
Lighting and display
Potion bottles suit a shelf, a window ledge or a table display more than the porch steps. Put a different colored LED behind each bottle, green, purple and orange, so each potion seems to hold a different brew. Old books, a candlestick and a few glass jars next to the pumpkin turn it into an apothecary corner. For photos, shoot straight on at bottle height in a dark room, and let the bubbles sparkle; a slow shutter on a phone night mode works well.
Make it yours
Label the bottles with your family’s names using the name stencil maker, or preview the shelf on your own pumpkin first.
Potion Bottles stencil questions
Why so many bridges?
Each bubble and label is a floating piece; the bridges keep them attached.
Is it a beginner design?
It is Medium. Beginners can do it at the Large size with patience.
How long?
About an hour: roughly 20 minutes of drilling bubbles and 40 minutes for the labels and bottle outlines.
Which size?
Large on a 10 inch pumpkin, so the smallest bubbles and label bridges stay wide enough to keep.
Can I use colored lights?
Yes. Put one colored LED behind each bottle so every potion glows a different color.
