Bat Pumpkin Stencil Designs

Free printable bat pumpkin stencils, from a single flying bat that takes 20 minutes to a bat swarm and a bell tower full of bats. Bats are one of the most forgiving shapes to carve: the wings are big, bold cut-outs.

About these bat stencils

A bat silhouette glows beautifully because almost the whole design is one opening. Swarms add movement: carve several small bats across the face, or scatter them around the back of the pumpkin too.

For a moon scene, carve the full moon as a scraped circle and the bat as a cut-out for a two-tone effect.

How to carve a bat pumpkin

  1. Pick a design and download the PDF in the size that matches the flattest face of your pumpkin.
  2. Cut a lid or a hole in the back, scoop out the pulp and thin the front wall to about 1 inch so the light shines through.
  3. Tape the stencil flat, poke along every line about 3 mm apart, then peel the paper off.
  4. Cut out the black shapes with a small saw, smallest pieces first, and keep every white bridge.
  5. Light it with an LED and clean up any edges that block the glow.

Carving tips

  • Cut wing points slowly; they are the thinnest parts.
  • Swarm stencils look best on large pumpkins.
  • Pair with a ghost pumpkin for a set.
