Frankenstein Pumpkin Stencil Designs

Frankenstein-style pumpkin stencils with the parts everyone recognizes: a flat square head, neck bolts and stitches. These are our own cartoon designs inspired by the 1818 novel, free to print in three sizes.

About these frankenstein stencils

The monster from Mary Shelley’s novel is public domain, but the famous film makeup is not, so our designs are original cartoon takes: a goofy patchwork monster, a cheerful monster girl, a walking monster and a mad science lab.

The square head is perfect for a wide, squat pumpkin. Carve the bolts last so the neck stays strong.

How to carve a frankenstein pumpkin

  1. Pick a design and download the PDF in the size that matches the flattest face of your pumpkin.
  2. Cut a lid or a hole in the back, scoop out the pulp and thin the front wall to about 1 inch so the light shines through.
  3. Tape the stencil flat, poke along every line about 3 mm apart, then peel the paper off.
  4. Cut out the black shapes with a small saw, smallest pieces first, and keep every white bridge.
  5. Light it with an LED and clean up any edges that block the glow.

Carving tips

  • Wide pumpkins suit square monster heads.
  • Carve stitches as thin slots, not dots.
  • Green LED lights make the monster glow green.
