Skull Pumpkin Stencil Designs

Free printable skull pumpkin stencils: a simple skull for beginners, skull and crossbones, a cracked grinning skull, a Day of the Dead sugar skull and a skull wrapped in roses. Every one is bridged so eye sockets and teeth stay put.

About these skull stencils

Skulls are classic because they read instantly in the dark. The trick is the teeth: each tooth is a separate piece of skin, so our stencils connect them to the jaw with bridges.

The sugar skull is our most detailed design, with flower eye sockets and swirling patterns. Print it large and allow two hours.

How to carve a skull pumpkin

  1. Pick a design and download the PDF in the size that matches the flattest face of your pumpkin.
  2. Cut a lid or a hole in the back, scoop out the pulp and thin the front wall to about 1 inch so the light shines through.
  3. Tape the stencil flat, poke along every line about 3 mm apart, then peel the paper off.
  4. Cut out the black shapes with a small saw, smallest pieces first, and keep every white bridge.
  5. Light it with an LED and clean up any edges that block the glow.

Carving tips

  • Carve teeth slots before the eye sockets.
  • Print the sugar skull Large.
  • A white pumpkin makes a bone-white skull.
